and Linda Ritz established Mother Lode Coffee Roasting
Company
to provide you with the best and freshest coffees from around the
world. Our love for specialty coffees and our desire to see
that perfect cup of coffee led us to begin roasting in 1993 in the
Sierra Foothills of California.
Gourmet
coffees have been compared to the making of fine wines. Purchasing
only top grade arabica green beans is essential.
Aribica is a botanical name for the kinds of coffee
that are grown at a higher mountain elevation and produce a higher
grade of coffee bean. Each bag, or "lot" of coffee
must be sample roasted and "cupped" (tasted) for quality.
(Most canned coffees are usually from a rougher quality bean called
robusta.)
The
roasting of coffee can be compared to that of a Master chef.
Steve has mastered this art of roasting and is able to offer you
the finest in coffees perfectly roasted in our small batch roaster.
Many of the coffee beans are brought to a Full City Roast
which brings out their smoothness and richness. Darker still
than Full City Roast, is Italian Roast, and finally,
the darkest roast, French Roast.
